Atlanta is a leading-edge city on the international scene

Founded in 1837 as a southern railroad town, the Atlanta metro area is now home to more than five million residents and growing. Atlanta is the county seat of Fulton County and the capital of the state of Georgia. It is infused with many multi-cultural influences and is one of the fastest-growing cities in the America.

The city hosts more than 35 million visitors each year.

An Airport that Drives the Regional Economy

Home to the busiest and most efficient airport in the world, Atlanta is a transportation and logistics hub. The Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport has been a consistent economic driver for the city. Today, the airport functions as a global gateway, serving more than 100 million domestic and international travelers in a single year. Media, technology, banking and film/television production industries fuel the region’s economy, making it one of the top ten largest cities in the U.S.

Rich in Culture and Steeped in Sports Tradition

Popular tourist attractions include the Georgia Aquarium, Zoo Atlanta, World of Coca-Cola, CNN Center, the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site and The King Center, The Carter Center and the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum, Atlanta History Center, Atlanta Botanical Garden, the Margaret Mitchell House and Museum, the Fox Theater and the High Museum of Art.

Atlanta is home to three major sports teams – baseball, basketball and football: the Atlanta Braves MLB team, the Atlanta Hawks NBA team, and the Atlanta Falcons NFL team. The city has also served as host for many international, professional and collegiate sporting events, including the 1996 Summer Olympics, two Super Bowls, the PGA Championship, and many NCAA Final Four basketball tournaments.

There’s a Lot to Learn in Atlanta

The city is home to the largest concentration of colleges and universities in the southern U.S., including Georgia State University, the Georgia Institute of Technology, Emory University, Clark Atlanta University, the Morehouse School of Medicine, John Marshall Law School and others.
