Two Adams and Reese Jackson office attorneys were named to leadership positions in local organizations as partner and financial services team leader C. Phillip Buffington, Jr., was announced as chairman of the Board of Directors for the Madison County Business League & Foundation and special counsel G. Austin Stewart earned a spot on the 2017-18 Madison County Young Professionals (MCYP) Steering Committee.
A native of Madison County, Buffington has been involved with the Business League & Foundation since 2011. That year, he was on the organization’s government relations committee, served as the committee’s vice chairman in 2012 and committee chair in 2013. Buffington was elected to the Madison County Business League & Foundation Board of Directors in 2014 while also serving as chair of the government relations committee, and he served on the Board as the treasurer in 2015 and vice chair in 2016.
The purpose of the Madison County Business League & Foundation is to act in partnership with the Madison County Economic Development Authority to provide the county with opportunities to unite the public and private sectors; thereby, encouraging proper planning for future growth and development.
Stewart has been involved with the MCYP Steering Committee since its formation in 2016, and will serve as the organization’s philanthropy chairman for the second-consecutive year. In that role in 2016-17, Stewart worked in conjunction with state treasurer Lynn Fitch’s TEAM (Treasurer’s Education About Money) initiative to sponsor financial literacy education in Canton public schools.
The MCYP Steering Committee will continue its efforts to encourage financial education in Madison County through hands-on and practical learning, and will be working directly with Canton public schools to host a reality fair.
