James B. McLaren, Jr., Named 2018 Best of the Bar Finalist By Memphis Business Journal

Adams and Reese attorney James B. McLaren, Jr., was recognized as one of the Mid-South’s eminent lawyers as the Memphis-office partner was named a 2018 Best of the Bar Finalist by the Memphis Business Journal.

McLaren was one of five attorneys selected in the MBJ’s extra-large private firm category, which includes firms with a national presence and numerous offices. The award is the second of his career after previously picking up the honor from the publication in 2016. He, along with the other 30 honorees, will be formally recognized at the third annual Best of the Bar Awards on March 27 at the Memphis Botanic Garden.

Originally joining Adams and Reese in 2006 at the opening of the firm’s Memphis office, McLaren is currently one of the firm’s transactions practice group leaders. He also serves as outside general counsel for a number of entities, many of which he has represented for more than 20 years.

McLaren has served as outside general counsel for the Downtown Memphis Commission, the downtown development authority for Memphis, for more than 25 years. In that role, he has supported the revitalization of downtown Memphis through planning and implementation of redevelopment initiatives such as tax incentives, tax increment financing, public-private partnerships, project development, land assembly and transactions involving historic tax credits.

He has been recognized by Best Lawyers® for his work in banking and finance law, economic development law, project finance law and public finance law every year since 2009. In addition, McLaren is a 12-time honoree by Mid-South Super Lawyers® for his work in real estate.
